MARY K RENWICK
Mental Health Counseling
Grounded Therapy
My practice of therapy entails wholistic care, within a working relationship, helping individuals toward transformation and healing. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix: therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the patient and caretaker alike. But in the end, making small changes to self-defeating behavior and coping with feelings of sadness, fear, and pain can bring life-altering results.
My approach is such that you will better understand and manage your experiences and work toward alleviating symptoms.

“There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn't.”
― John Green, Turtles All the Way Down
About Me

I am a Registered Psychiatric Nurse and have worked in the mental health field for over 25 years. I recently retired from the public mental health system and would like to continue that work privately. I use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and sensory-motor techniques.
My experience encompasses working with individuals and families with a wide range of mental health issues including anxiety and mood disorders (including bipolar), psychotic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma experiences, concurrent disorders, and personality disorders. Rather than disease, illness or pathology, my focus is on caring, healing and wholeness.
What to Expect at your Visit
It is impossible to know how long therapy will be; some individuals get what they want in 2 or three sessions, some more. You will decide what you want to work on and for how long. At the first appointment I like to complete a mental health assessment, where you have an opportunity to let me know of your situation and expectations of therapy. From there we will determine a plan to work towards.
Regular appointments are one-hour long, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) sessions are usually 90 minutes.
If you like, we could have a 30 minute conversation on the phone or online where I can answer any questions and you can get a sense of who I am, before booking an appointment. If I am unable to assist you I will help you find a service better suited.
I strive to help my patients change what they can and develop the tools they need to cope with life’s challenges.
